Encountering the Water Guardian
It had been just a normal meeting on the beach, nothing much. It was Rivertide, of course they’d meet by the beach. Done after work, Kurai had met up with Pesky to enjoy the evening and watch the sun dip below the horizon, having brought Thommy and Artemis to play in the water.
“You sure you don’t want any of the fries?”, Pesky asked once again, before leaning forward and holding the pack of fries towards his roommate. Kurai shook his head, leaning back some more, resting his wings against the sandy ground.
His attention was more on the Pokémon. “Nah, I’m good. I already stole a whole enchilada”, he laughed, watching as Thommy clang onto the back of Artemis. The Dewgong variant was gliding through the water, slow and careful, to not accidentally throw the Bulbasaur fusion off.
The first shift in atmosphere came with stronger waves, unnoticed by the two trainers, but not completely slipping past the Dewgong that was far more accustomed to the ways of the water. Artemis slowly narrowed his eyes, looking back to Thommy, who still gleefully and with a bit more sleep in his eyes clung to the water types back.
For a moment, he tried to focus on his surroundings, letting his psychic energy surge to check for anything else around them - only to immediately open his eyes again and let out a warning screech.
That screech immediately got Kurais and Peskys attention, with the Noivern fusion quickly back on his feet to look out over the water. “Artemis? What is-”
The Dewgong was already on his way back to shore, now with quick movements and Thommy still clinging onto his back, now more awake and attentive than he had been for the past month, surely.
Just a moment later, the waves rose higher, crashing farther along the shore and forcing those people that had not noticed early enough to retreat backwards onto higher parts of the beach without being able to grab their possessions. Pesky was quick to stumble backwards, while Kurai used his wings to push himself higher up, keeping his eyes on Artemis and Thommy.
Where the two Pokémon had been prior, a hole seemed to open up in the ocean, yet before anyone could hope to comprehend what was happening, the reason made itself baringly clear.
Shining with the whitest feathers, rivaling the beauty of moonlight in a full moon night, a low, humming song accompanying it, a giant being rose out of the water. Whirling around itself, wings folded like a cocoon, before it had risen high enough to spread its wings and stay airborne, looking across the beach at the curious onlookers.
Kurai stared back at it for a moment, before his attention shifted back to the two Pokémon downwards, that were still fighting the waves that now tried to smack them against the beach. He flew down, quick to grab Thommy off Artemis’ back and rise back up, which allowed Artemis to properly dive down into the water and swim from there.
With the Bulbasaur fusion in his arms, Kurai flew back to Pesky and sat him down on his roommates head, while Pesky still stared up at the giant Legendary in front of him. “I’ve read that there have been more sightings of this Beast recently… but I did not think it would frequent a tourist beach”, he mumbled, while Kurai watched Artemis break out of the water in a high jump, landing beside his trainer.
“Lugia”, Kurai breathed out, mesmerized at the beautiful shine of its silver feathers, the powerful beating of wings. The Pokémon slowly let its gaze travel across the beach, eyeing those that were just staring in pure shock, those that already tried to scramble to make photos and record and those that were already cautiously approaching, Pokéballs in hand.
Artemis kept close to the two trainers, not all too interested in going toe to toe with a Legendary. He knew he wasn’t weak, but he’d still lose. And Thommy was barely more than a child in his powerlevel. They better not try anything stupid-
A loud gasp went through the crowd as the Legendary beat its powerful wings, stirring up the wind and knocking some of the smaller and lighter weighed Pokémon and humans over. Kurai pushed his claws into the sand, holding Artemis close to himself, while Pesky was quick to grab Thommy and hold him against his chest.
With wide eyes, they then watched as the Pokémon made of colors of moonlight pushed higher and higher, before whirling around itself and dashing back down into the waters of the ocean, further off the shore.
Amazed, Kurai watched as the water slowly lost its aggressive touch, then smiled lightly. “Wow…”
Pesky blinked a bit. “That was a short visit. Maybe our world is just that underwhelming in its current state.”
