Medical Training
Jackson was currently standing in Professor Blackthorn’s laboratory with his partner pokemon, Atlas, standing at his side. The lab was filled with various research technology and pokemon related items but was still incredibly organized. The white walls and floor were also shiny and clean. It also didn’t quite feel like most laboratories due to Professor’s Blackthorn decorating the space with posters and neon lights.
The professor entered the room, wearing a teal shirt and his white laboratory coat. His pokemon, a fluffy starly/eevee fusion with a red hat and wings folded at her sides. Atlas’ tail wagged as he approached the pokemon, who began to chase him playfully.
“Oh boy uh Atlas!” Jackson called out as his pokemon joined in the play, his fluffy tail whacking against the cabinets.
“It's quite alright. Finch loves to play.” Professor Blackthorn assured him, completely unbothered by the playing pokemon as they ran around the room. “I have a suspicion that you don’t know how to make medicine.” He continued.
“... Well yeah. Not exactly a bunch of medical experts around Thunderdale.” Jackson replied and the professor nodded with understanding.
“That’s exactly why I asked you to come here. I’d be happy to teach you how to make medicines.” He responded with a smile. Jackson nodded gratefully, it would certainly be a big money saver and make it a lot more convenient to heal Atlas. His pokemon was still playing with Finch as she playfully tackled him. The larger pokemon dramatically flopped to his side.
Professor Blackthorn began to gather supplies from around his laboratory, occasionally having to move as the pokemon moved around the room. He brought them over to a laboratory table near Jackson and set them down carefully. Jackson could see glass bottles along with some colorful liquids that he didn’t recognize.
“I’ll send you an electronic copy of all the recipes but for now just try to follow along.” The professor said as he motioned for Jackson to come to the table. Professor Blackthorn then began to go over what all the ingredients were, which seemed like a lot of information at once to Jackson.
The professor then walked him through the steps involved in making a potion, doing it himself as Jackson watched. The trainer thought it didn’t seem too difficult at first, until Professor Blackthorn started talking about how to upgrade the potions to more advanced kinds.
“Alright, now it’s your turn.” He said as he stepped aside so Jackson could try it himself. The trainer stepped forward and immediately felt like he had forgotten everything the professor had explained. He was also thinking that, in his defense, Professor Blackthorn had rather droned on.
Seeing that he was struggling, the professor walked him through the steps again as he was doing it. Since following instructions was easy enough Jackson was able to successfully make a potion.
“Well done!” Professor Blackthorn said proudly as he placed more ingredients in front of the trainer. He then began to explain how to upgrade the potion, with Jackson following his instructions.
It had taken some time but eventually Jackson had made an entire collection of healing supplies with the professor’s help. Both of their pokemon had fallen asleep on the floor, tired after playing while their human partners were working.
“Thank you for the help.” Jackson said as he began to put all of the healing supplies in his backpack.
“Please, don’t mention it! Feel free to come to me if you have any trouble or questions. Medicine or pokemon related!” The professor insisted and the trainer nodded. He then said his goodbyes to the professor before waking up Atlas to begin walking back home. The noctyena arched his jaws in a wide yawn then stretched his legs.
Once they returned to Jackson’s apartment he took the healing supplies out and began to set them out on one of his shelves. The professor had also given him some extra ingredients, which Jackson set aside for later.
“Well, it’ll be a lot easier for me to heal you now buddy.” Jackson said as he looked towards Atlas, who wagged his tail. He gave his pokemon a pat on the head before going off to get ready for bed. Spending all that time with the professor learning how to make medicine sure felt exhausting to him. Atlas seemed to be equally sleepy as he curled up on the end of Jackson’s bed, quickly falling asleep. The trainer soon joined him, glad that he had learned something new despite the fatigue.
