In the time since Jackson had started taking his training with his partner pokemon, Atlas, more seriously the two had grown much stronger. Of course they had grown physically stronger, even with his injured leg Jackson had a lot more endurance and muscle strength. However, the two had also grown even closer as a team and with their knowledge. Battling took a different sort of connection between person and pokemon, with both trusting each other. It also took some time for Jackson to learn how to best use Atlas’ attack moves.

“Do you want to go get some practice?” The trainer said as he turned towards his pokemon, who wagged his tail. The noctyena was always eager to show off his moves. This was particularly beneficial considering how many missions the two had been going on, having an increasing amount of success as the two grew stronger.

Jackson and Atlas walked away from the crowded city of Thunderdale, stopping once they reached the surface. There really wasn’t much above ground near Thunderdale, but it was the only close space they had to practice moves. A crowded city wasn’t exactly great for training pokemon.

First Jackson had Atlas warm up with some more basic moves, the noctyena eagerly bouncing around as he did basic dodges and jumps. After that the trainer moved on to going through some of Atlas’ more complex moves. The pokemon was able to do it with ease, having a fast reaction time to his trainer’s commands. Jackson praised his partner pokemon as he came bounding back.

“Maybe we should try out a target.” Jackson suggested as he dragged out a nearby wooden practice dummy in the shape of a pokemon. The trainer had stashed it there in order to have an easy way for Atlas to try out his attacks.

The trainer started with light attacks as Atlas hit the target with a high level of precision with Jackson praising him along the way. Soon enough he started to move onto more powerful and complex moves. The noctyena continued to execute them well, the target being hit with repeated attacks. Suddenly, the target was to split apart with a loud crack.

Wood shards were sent flying in all directions as the target was destroyed. Jackson had to dive to the side in order to doge the shards, one of them hitting his prosthetic leg with a clang. He got back up and noticed Atlas having a rather upset look on his face.

“Don’t worry about breaking it. Just means you’re getting better. I’ll have to figure out something stronger.” The trainer assured the pokemon as he patted his head. Jackson was immediately trying to think of those ways he could upgrade the dummy. Now that he had been reassured by his trainer Atlas was back to his happy mood as he picked up some of the shards to run around with them. His trainer laughed as he watched the pokemon race around the dirt landscape, Atlas’ ears flattened and tail wagging in the wind.
