Jackson Rankup #3

Jackson and Atlas were now back on a patch of flat, barren terrain on the surface above Thunderdale. After he had last trained with Atlas the pokemon had completely obliterated their wooden dummy. Which, of course Jackson didn’t mind because it just showed how much stronger his pokemon had become. The trainer had immediately started work on a new target device, using his tech skills to try and make something that would withstand the noctyena’s attack. However, he still wasn’t very confident that it wouldn’t just end up breaking.

He thought his pokemon had gotten even stronger since they had trained with the wooden dummy. Their frequent missions were certainly a big help in the pokemon’s approvement. Jackson was also becoming even more in tuned with his partner pokemon. He knew had Atlas would respond to his commands and the trainer had learned how to use his moves to their full potential.

“Alright buddy, let’s give this a try.” Jackson said as he pushed the metal dummy into the ground. He had tried to make it more flexible with some gaps in between the parts. The outside was also covered with wool and Jackson hoped that would help absorb Atlas’ hits.

Atlas’ tail was wagging, excited to get started with the training. The pokemon seemed to be equally as happy about his improvement. “Let’s try with a light attack first.” Jackson said.

In an instant Atlas rushed forward and body slammed the metal dummy. The wool did absorb his attack, but the metal beneath prevented it from moving much so the pokemon hit it full force. Luckily the noctyena quickly recovered and looked back at Jackson.

“... Okay maybe we don’t want to try physical attacks on this one.” The trainer said with an awkward laugh. Atlas’ tail wagged slowly, waiting for the next command. “Let’s give dark pulse a try.”

The noctyena moved into a battle position and then performed the move. A large, black, shadowy ball began to appear in front of him. It grew larger and more solid until Atlas sent it flying at the dummy. The move hit with the dummy with full force, disappearing as it did so.

Jackson was relieved to see that the dummy had remained mostly intact. Some of the wool had been torn off the dummy in the process, but the trainer thought that was easily replaceable. “Okay good. Let’s go with moonblast now.” He instructed, knowing that the move was more powerful than shadow ball.

This time a ball of bright white light began to appear in front of the noctyena. After letting it build up for a few seconds he sent it flying at the dummy. The dummy shook and even more wool was sent flying off it. It certainly destroyed more wool at once than the previous move but still left the metal portion of the dummy intact.

“Okay good! We probably can’t hit it with any more moves until I replace the wool.” Jackson praised Atlas, who’s tail wagged rapidly in the air. Both of them had a feeling of success since all of their hard work was clearly paying off.
