City in the Sky #2
Now that Jackson had found the spare parts storage it was a matter of actually finding the right ones. Currently he was trying to locate spare wires for the solar panels, which were non-functional. “Okay… we gotta look for wires.” He said to his partner pokemon, a noctowl/mightyena fusion named Atlas.
Being a rather intelligent pokemon, Atlas helped his trainer as they rummaged around in the parts. There didn’t seem to be any organization system with the parts, although he figured part of this was probably due to the chaos currently going on across the city.
“Here they are!” Jackson said as he pulled out a box filled with different colored wires. Atlas wagged his tail as his trainer gathered up the wires and began to head back towards the solar panels.
With the new wires in hand Jackson went back to work. Since he had already cut out the old worn down wires he just had to rewire the panels. The main issue he ran into with that was the amount of solar panels that weren’t working. The small amount of time it took to fix each one was adding up as he moved from panel to panel.
Soon enough darkness began to fall as the sun set. Not only was this a problem for visibility but the already cold temperatures were dropping. Even Jackson’s thick coat couldn’t keep him warm as he shivered, although Atlas seemed mostly unbothered.
“Hey, why don’t you get some rest? You can stay at one of the nearby houses we have for workers.” One of the maintenance managers said as he walked up to Jackson, his shoes crunching through the soft snow.
“Yeah, you’re probably right.” The trainer said with a yawn. After he finished the solar panel he was working on he opened his backpack to drop his tools back in it. He also put in the wires, figuring no one would be looking for them at the time being.
The manager led Jackson to one of the houses and as he stepped inside he was relieved to find it was nice and warm inside. A fire was burning in the nearby fireplace, casting the room in a soft orange glow. Other workers were sleeping in nearby bunks. After getting ready for bed Jackson soon also fell asleep with Atlas laying at his side.
The trainer was up bright and early the next morning as the sun began to rise. After eating some food provided by Wintervale he went straight back to work on the solar panels. He continued his work from the previous day as he rewired the broken panels, his mind mostly going to muscle memory.
It took a large portion of the day but eventually the trainer had all the panels rewired. The system needed a reset, but after that everything seemed to be working as the power provided by the solar panels began to come back. “Ah you got them working!” The manager said as he came up behind Jackson.
“Oh, yeah I did. Unfortunately I probably have to be getting back home though.” The trainer answered as he checked his watch. It was starting to get late in the day so he would have to leave soon if he wanted to reach his apartment at a reasonable time. He had other matters to attend to back in Thunderdale, mainly around his tech business. Considering the rather unsavory characters he sometimes had to work for they wouldn’t exactly patiently wait if he stayed to help.
“That’s alright, I understand. We truly are grateful for your help.” The manager replied as he shook Jackson’s hand. After hearing some communication chatter the manager brisky began to walk off, undoubtedly to solve some other problem the city was having.
Jackson boarded a train as he reached the station closest to Wintervale, which was filled with other passengers from Wintervale. Some of them were lucky enough to have family in other cities where they could go until some of the problems were solved.
The trainer dozed off as the train moved along and Atlas fell asleep at his feet. Although, it still didn’t take very long to reach his stop in Thunderdale. The benefits of technology meant that travel was rather speedy all across the region. As he got off the train he was happy to find warm air all around him. He walked back to his apartment, unlocking the door and putting down his backpack. Jackson then immediately got to work on some of his tech projects, knowing that he was already starting to fall behind schedule.
