Vulcan Move Learning
Phoenix was standing on a patch of dirt that had been cleared and marked with faded white paint for use as a practice field. Some of the plant life around it was scorched black, undoubtedly from fire type moves. Being that the city of Ethermoor could be seen only a few miles away it wasn’t surprising that people had been using fire type pokemon at the field.
The Ethermoor native was currently at the field with his own fire type pokemon named Vulcan. Vulcan was a delta fire carnabone who was red with a yellow belly. The carnabone’s plating was black and orange, resembling the lava rocks that were common in the area.
“Time to do some move learning!” Phoenix exclaimed. “We’re gonna learn magma storm first!” The trainer said loudly and with exaggerated movements.
A small puff of fire came from Vulcan’s mouth as he readied himself to start with learning the move. For a few minutes the carnabone could only manage to make small balls of fire that quickly faded. Certainly not near the power of magma storm.
“I know you can do it!” The trainer encouraged his pokemon. The carnabone’s tail lashed back and forth, wanting to succeed as he gave it another try. The orbs of flame grew larger and more powerful until the pokemon was able to hurtle blobs of molten lava and fire around the arena.
“Perfect! What a powerful move!” Phoenix said excitedly and with a laugh. “Next… we’ll do fire blast!”
Vulcan felt eager to learn mostly thanks to his trainer’s praise and positive attitude as he began to attempt fire blast. The pokemon found himself only able to create small bursts of flame, getting discouraged as he continued to try.
“I know you can do it! Give it some more power!” His trainer shouted with encouragement. Vulcan certainly wasn’t about to give up on learning the move and let his trainer down. The carnabone continued trying to execute the move with the flames growing larger each time. Finally, he was able to make a large burst of flames that spread out in multiple directions.
“Amazing.” Phoenix nodded as he pat his pokemon on the head. “Let’s do flare blitz. It should be easier to learn now that you’ve got more control and power with your fire!”
Vulcan began trying the move, finding that his trainer was right. It was becoming easier for him to create powerful bursts of fire. The pokemon began trying to surround himself with the hot fire. It took multiple attempts in order to get the fire to completely surround his body.
After learning this part effectively the pokemon then had to focus more on making the flames around him hotter and larger. Phoenix continued to shout some words of encouragement as Vulcan did so. Before long the pokemon was surrounding himself with a large cloud of fire. It’s burning hot intensity was sure to do significant damage to any opponents.
After that it was time for Vulcan to practice executing the move since it involved charging forward at a high speed. The pokemon found this to be the easiest part of the move. He charged forward quickly, lowing his blocky shaped head. Although, it did take a few tries for the carnabone to figure out how to maintain the fire while he was charging forwards.
“Time for one last move. Let’s do fusion flare!” The trainer said with a satisfied nod.
Vulcan immediately got to practicing the new move. This one required the most powerful fire of any that he had learned so far. The pokemon had to create a large fiery ball of energy above his head that he could then hurl towards his opponents.
The carnabone had to focus on adding size to the fusion flare first, practicing until it slowly became an adequate size. This involved maintaining his control of the fire while adding more strength to it. The final part of the move involved throwing the fusion flare towards an enemy.
Phoenix marked a spot for Vulcan to aim for, saying some more words of encouragement until he stepped to the side. The trainer made sure to step a good distance away from the spot he had marked. Although he trusted his pokemon, he could see how a fusion flare could miss and go towards him.
Vulcan practiced the move for some time, working on his aim. At first he struggled to get close to the spot but eventually he was able to hit the target each time. Now that he had learned all the moves, Phoenix decided it was the perfect time to go get some fiery food in the city.
