City in the Sky #7
Susan looked up at the floating city of Wintervale that was far above her head in the bright blue sky. No matter how many times she saw the city the trainer always found it amazing. Being in her 60s, the trainer remembered a time without as much advanced technology. She was grateful for most of the advancements that had happened over the years.
Beside her stood her hoothoot/medicham fusion named Harold. The pokemon was a mix of blue, yellow, and purple along with rounded legs and small, taloned bird feet. Small wings also extended from the pokemon’s arms.
“Hello! Are you here to help?” Susan heard a voice ask from behind her. As she turned around the trainer saw a young woman standing there with a tablet in her hands. She assumed the person had to be a Wintervale native based on her clothing.
“Yes, yes I am.” She replied and the woman nodded as she scrolled on her tablet for a few seconds.
“Your pokemon can fly I assume? If so we need help getting supplies up to the city.” The worker then said as she gestured towards a nearby pile of supplies. There were some other flying pokemon helping to pick up the items but there was still so much that needed to go up.
“Yes he can, but not anything heavy. And he doesn’t have a whole lot of stamina considering his small wings.” Susan confirmed. The trainer didn’t want to unintentionally cause harm to her pokemon in the process of trying to help.
“Okay, that’s fine. Just have him take as much of the smaller items as he can up to the city. Right above there are workers waiting to receive the packages so they’ll take it from there.” The worker explained as she typed some notes into the tablet. Before Susan could really reply to this the Wintervale native was already rushing off towards some other newcomers.
Susan and Harold walked over to the supply stash as the older woman looked through the items. She found a small and relatively light wooden crate with a rope tied around it. “Here, this one should be easy enough to bring up there.” The trainer said to the hooticham.
The pokemon’s arms wiggled as it moved forward and jumped on top of the box. The wooden crate creaked slightly below him as Harold grabbed the rope tightly with his talons. As he flapped his white and gold wings he slowly ascended into the sky. Susan watched as Harold became a speck in the sky overhead before disappearing as he landed onto the floating island.
Once Harold had reached the island the hooticham saw workers waving their hands at him and pointing. The pokemon stared at them blankly for a few moments before he finally realized that they were trying to direct him on where to land.
The flying pokemon took the crate over to where he was being directed. Harold still didn’t quite get to the correct spot that they were trying to communicate but he set the crate down in the soft snow. The people then began to open the crate and distribute supplies to go to the correct areas.
Harold took off into the air again and flew back to the edge of the island. He couldn’t even make out Susan from this height, all he could see were moving dots of pokemon and people. The hooticham began to glide down towards where Susan had been standing before.
As the pokemon got closer he had to adjust his trajectory in order to land next to his trainer. Susan was happy to see her pokemon had successfully completed the task as she praised Harold. She then headed over towards the stash of items to find another thing that would be easy for Harold to carry up to the island.
The two repeated this process a few times until the flap of Harold’s wings slowed as he grew tired. Seeing this Susan let a nearby worker know that her pokemon would need a break from transport. He seemed too busy to really discuss this or pay it much mind as he waved his hand at Susan to signal that he had heard her.
“Well done! You’ve definitely earned your break. Let’s go warm up.” Susan said as she looked to a nearby cabin. Harold wasn’t feeling the cold quite as much but the trainer had been shivering the entire time. Especially considering she was standing still in the cold snow while her pokemon was hard at work.
