Eros grew up brazenly reckless with his health and the rules and laws around him, though he was usually lucky to get out of trouble. However, due to this and his tendency of keeping people at arm's length and hanging out with pokemon instead, he was a bit of an outcast, causing him to gain a soft spot for other "outcasted" pokemon, especially the poison types that everyone avoided, and the bug types that many trainers deemed as weak.

But see, the thing about poison types is that although they're commonly disliked unjustly, there's a reason people should be careful about handling them. And Eros, although smart, wasn't smart enough to pay attention to symptoms of repeated poisoning. He unfortunately didn't think much of burning in his lungs and throat as he played with the Weezing, or the sharp pain in his guts after not washing his hands when eating with the Muk.

By the time someone dragged him to a doctor to get checked out, most of the damage was irreversible, and he needed to get a good chunk of his organs replaced by prosthetics, including his throat and vocal chords. Turns out his cool raspy voice was actually caused by poison damage who knew! And while insurance covered some of the costs, it still put him in a decent sized debt.

And so Eros decided to be a mechanic and a prosthetics engineer, both to pay off his bills and to create his own modifications, so at least he didn't have to worry about the cost of the actual mechanics. Most of his materials are scavenged from scrap, and he sometimes lands himself in trouble after trespassing on private property because he saw a scrap of metal he could use. He's willing to do quite a lot for the right amount of money.
